The Hybrid Build Method

Step 1

CNC-Cut Ply Skeleton

All neck rings, shoulder discs, skirt panels, and body sections are CNC-cut from plywood. DXF files provided — ready to load and cut. No guesswork.

Step 2

Traditional Fibreglass Head

The iconic dome head is formed using traditional fibreglass techniques over a mould. Plans and tips included. Achieves that authentic rounded finish.

Step 3

Fabricated Detailing

Arm, exterminator, balls, mesh and tube detailing. Full parts list included so you know exactly what to source. Brazing (not soldering!) advised for metal work.

💡 Pro tip: Build it to come apart — modular construction means you can transport and store it easily.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a CNC machine?

Yes — or access to one via a local makerspace. The DXF and G-CODE files are compatible with all major CNC routers. Many local fab shops will cut for you from the files.

Is fibreglass experience required?

Basic fibreglass skills are helpful for the dome. The plans include tips and the process is well-documented. This is a maker project — research and patience are your best tools.

Is this a physical product?

No. This is a digital download — you receive all plan and cut files digitally. You source materials and build yourself. No physical item is shipped.

Are these the actual BBC production plans?

These are based on the 1973 BBC Doctor Who Dalek plans and have been adapted for modern digital fabrication (CNC, 3D print). They are not official BBC-licensed products.

How quickly do I receive the files?

Instantly after payment — you receive a download link on screen and via email. Files are in a ZIP archive ready to extract.
